A software framework for the development of projection-based augmented reality systems

Despite the large amount of methods and applications of augmented reality, there is little homogenization on the software platforms that support them. An exception may be the low level control software that is provided by some high profile vendors such as Qualcomm and Metaio. However, these provide fine grain modules for e.g. element tracking. We are more concerned on the application framework, that includes the control of the devices working together for the development of the AR experience. In this paper we present a software framework that can be used for the development of AR applications based on camera-projector pairs, that is suitable for both fixed, and nomadic setups.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

El uso de las TIG en los barrios informales: una herramienta indispensable de evaluación y planificación. El caso de ESF-Cat en Mozambique

Con la voluntad de mejorar la planificación y evaluación de los proyectos urbanos de ESF-Cat, desde sus inicios el Programa Barrios de Maputo (Mozambique) se planteó, como una herramienta indispensable, la elaboración de una Línea Base de Información a través de las TIG, y en especial, de los SIG. La futura elaboración del Plan Urbanístico del barrio de Maxaquene ‘A’ constata, aún más, la necesidad real de contar con una información de base, organizada y centralizada, y además, pone sobre la mesa la discusión ética y económica del uso de software libre o privativo. The domination number of on-line social networks and random geometric graphs

We consider the domination number for on-line social networks, both in a stochastic network model, and for real-world, networked data. Asymptotic sublinear bounds are rigorously derived for the domination number of graphs generated by the memoryless geometric protean random graph model. We establish sublinear bounds for the domination number of graphs in the Facebook 100 data set, and these bounds are well-correlated with those predicted by the stochastic model. In addition, we derive the asymptotic value of the domination number in classical random geometric graphs

Analysis of Dynamic PET Data for Reversible Tracers of Neuroreceptor Studies

Real-Time Non-Intrusive Assessment of Viewing Distance During Computer Use

Purpose: To develop and test the sensitivity of an ultrasound-based sensor to assess the viewing distance of visual display terminals operators in real-time conditions. Methods: A modified ultrasound sensor was attached to a computer display to assess viewing distance in real time. Sensor functionality was tested on a sample of 20 healthy participants while they conducted four 10-minute randomly presented typical computer tasks (a match-three puzzle game, a video documentary, a task requiring participants to complete a series of sentences, and a predefined internet search). Results: The ultrasound sensor offered good measurement repeatability. Game, text completion, and web search tasks were conducted at shorter viewing distances (54.4 cm [95% CI 51.3-57.5 cm], 54.5 cm [95% CI 51.1-58.0 cm], and 54.5 cm [95% CI 51.4-57.7 cm], respectively) than the video task (62.3 cm [95% CI 58.9-65.7 cm]). Statistically significant differences were found between the video task and the other three tasks (all p < 0.05). Range of viewing distances (from 22 to 27 cm) was similar for all tasks (F = 0.996; p = 0.413). Conclusions: Real-time assessment of the viewing distance of computer users with a non-intrusive ultrasonic device disclosed a task-dependent pattern. Pietų Afrikos rašytojo, Nobelio premijos laureato J. M. Coetzee (Kūcė) romano Peterburgo šeiminin­kas(The Master of Petersburg) (1994) pagrindinis herojus Fiodoras Dostojevskis 1869 m. atvyksta į Peterburgą, siekdamas išsiaiškinti savo posūnio žu­vimo aplinkybes. Romane akivaizdžiai žaidžiama su autentiškomis istorinėmis asmenybėmis ir faktais ir taip sukuriamas jau tapęs įprastu XX a. pabaigos literatūrai postmodernistinis tekstas, suponuojantis pačias įvairiausias literatūros kritikų bei skaitytojų interpretacijas. Straipsnio autorė, siekdama susiste­minti skirtingų mokyklų ir kultūrų atstovų nuomones ir pozicijas, atkreipia dėmesį į dar vieną literatūros kritikų nenagrinėtą ir galbūt matomą tik iš susipaži­nusių su rusų literatūros klasika pozicijų šio romano aspektą, kuriame svarbiausia būtų tėvų ir vaikų konf­liktas, kurį pirmą kartą rusų literatūroje išnagrinėjo I. The municipal network of urban gardens in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) and its implications for environmental education

[Resumo] Santiago de Compostela conta con hortas urbanas municipais dende 2008 grazas a un proxecto piloto de instalación de parcelas no parque de Belvís, no marco dunha estratexia consistorial para diversificar os usos das zonas verdes en clave de ocio saudable. Como finalidades, a recuperación dos saberes tradicionais, a mellora paisaxística e a promoción da agricultura ecolóxica. Nove anos despois, coa disposición de novas instalacións como resposta á demanda, a cidade goza dunha rede que integra cinco espazos máis, sumando ao redor de duascentas parcelas. O perfil das participantes é diverso, facilitando interaccións interxeracionais e á emerxencia de dinámicas sociocomunitarias. Porén, malia o seu potencial socioeducativo, non se conta cun programa de Educación Ambiental asociado dende 2011. Este traballo pretende salientar a relevancia destes equipamentos para a promoción dunha alimentación sustentable e a reconciliación cidadá coa riqueza cultural e biolóxica dos agroecosistemas galegos. Para tal fin, profúndase nesta experiencia dende as olladas das súas protagonistas, mediante entrevistas semiestruturadas a usuarias e responsables técnicas e políticas, complementadas cun grupo de discusión. O que en definitiva se pretende é suscitar a reflexión acerca das implicacións deste tipo de iniciativas para a construción dunha cultura da sustentabilidade social e ambiental nos contextos urbanos galegos[Abstract] Santiago de Compostela has municipal urban gardens since 2008 thanks to a pilot project of allotment instalation in Belvís park, related with a strategy of the city council for diversify the green zones uses including a healthy leisure way. The aims were the recovery of traditional knowledge, the landscape improve and the ecological agriculture promotion. Nine years after, with the new instalations as answer to the citizen demand, the city has a network with fve spaces more and around two hundred allotments. Participating profle is diverse, wich allows intergenerational relationships and the emergence of comunitary dinamics. However, despite it social and educative potential, there isn’t an Environmental Education program since 2011. This work expects to emphasise the relevance of these equipments to promote a sustainable feeding and the citizen reconciliation with the cultural and biological heritage of the galician agroecosystems. For that, it goes in depth in this experience since the protagonists view by semistructured interviews to users and technic and politic reponsibles, complemented with a discussion group. Defnetily, it hopes to arouse a refection about implications of these initiatives for the build of a social and environmental sutainability culture in the galician urban context
